FAQ
What are Potassium/Sodium Butyl Xanthate particles? What are the main components and characteristics?
Sodium (potassium) butylxanthate is a flotation agent with strong trapping capacity, which is widely used in the mixed flotation of various non-ferrous metal sulfide ores.
It is especially suitable for the flotation of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrite and so on.
·Appearance:Pale yellow to orange particles (powder/granules)
· Odor:Irritating odor
· Solubility:Soluble in water and alcohol, can form insoluble compounds with many kinds of metal ions.
Which minerals is butyl xanthate mainly used for flotation?
Butyl xanthate is mainly used for the flotation of naturally floatable sulfide minerals, such as:
Copper minerals such as chalcopyrite and chalcocite
Galena and other lead minerals
Zinc minerals such as sphalerite (often requiring pre-activation)
Pyrite, pyrrhotite
Molybdenite
Natural gold and silver (often combined with other collectors)
It is sometimes also used in the sulfidation flotation of certain oxidized ores (such as cerusite and malachite).
How does butylxanthate work?
Butyl xanthate is an anionic collector. It dissociates into xanthate ions in water. These ions can undergo chemical reactions or strongly adsorb metal cations exposed on the surface of sulfide minerals (such as Cu²⁺, Pb²⁺, Zn²⁺, Fe²⁺, etc.),
generating hydrophobic metal xanate films that cover the mineral surface. This makes the mineral surface hydrophobic and easy to adhere to bubbles, thereby achieving separation from gangue minerals.
